Dear Community Partner,
As COVID-19 continues to spread, the future has never felt so unpredictable. These are challenging times for us all, and we hope you’re in good spirits and health! Right now, we’re doing everything possible to sustain daily operations and provide scholarships to our community.
After careful consideration, Stars Scholarship Fund Board, committee and staff have determined that we cannot hold our annual El Paso Extravaganza in 2020. Unfortunately, we do not see a way to move forward in providing our sponsors and guests with a safe and enjoyable experience. While there’s a lot of uncertainty, we know that we need to adapt fast to our changing reality. Now, more than ever, our community needs us. And we need you.
Stars Scholarship Fund received scholarship applications from 2,288 eligible, qualified students, with 357 of those El Pasoans in need of our assistance. Covid-19 has affected everyone, for students in our community their financial situation has become more dire.
For Stars Scholarship Fund it meant postponing two of our fundraisers that were to be held in April. The number of scholarships we provide is directly related to our ability to raise funds. The continued support of our donors through this has made all the difference and allowed us to continue our commitment to provide scholarships for the coming academic year.
Stars Scholarship Fund has partnerships with the University of Texas at El Paso, El Paso Community College, and Texas Tech Health Science Center El Paso, where we guarantee funds to students from each institution. It is our hope that you will continue to support Stars Scholarship Fund and invest in the students of our community so that these partnerships can continue for 2021.
We are fortunate to have the support of L&F Distributors, who generously underwrites operating expenses for Stars Scholarship Fund, which enables us to commit 100% of the funds you contribute to student scholarships.
In times like this, we’re reminded of how interconnected we all are. Thank you for being part of our community. Without you, none of it is possible.
Stay safe and well,
Lisa Peisen
